Many problems with newer and older computers alike are caused by a buggy or incompatible BIOS in your system - this is especially a common cause of problems when attempting to install a new version of Windows on an older machine. Luckily, you should be able to get a free, downloadable BIOS update from the website of the manufacturer of your motherboard. See Intel's Bios Update Search for a possible solution.
