Nobody wants to spend a significant amount of time being stuck in traffic. This is especially true when one is in a big hurry. How a person deals with traffic jams will indicate whether or not he or she has road rage. Three warning signs of road rage are:

First, an individual may feel that every car on the road other than their own car is merely taking up space and that each car is a road block that is hindering their progress. I would feel like this often when I suffered from uncontrolled road rage. I never let my emotions overwhelm me to the point of doing something dangerous or irrational, but I would call people every name in the book if they didn't drive at my pace.

Second, road rage will cause a person to drive recklessly and put others at risk. When you see cars that bounce from lane to lane when there's moderate to heavy traffic on the road, these people are extremely impatient and are high risks for a potentially fatal accident.

Last, some people that are over the edge may take things a step further by yelling out obscenities at people that cut them off on the road or by continuously blowing their horn in order to provoke the person that jumped in front of them.

If you have experienced these types of emotions behind the wheel frequently throughout the coarse of a week, then it's safe to say that you have a case of road rage. We have all heard of extreme cases where road rage got out of control and people were seriously injured or killed. Road rage is a symptom that stems from something much deeper in a person's life such as stress from martial or relationship problems, financial difficulties, or personal addictions.

My experience has taught me that cleaning up the problem areas of my personal life helped me to overcome my road rage. I'm thankful I never crossed the line by not checking my anger on the road.
